Helping customers improve quality and efficiency, Sonda Tools 12x diameter precision boring bar overcomes long overhang processing
Recently, Sonda Tools' technical team successfully completed the on-site test cutting of Sonda's 12x diameter damping precision boring bar at a certain company in Nanjing. Under the harsh conditions of no internal cooling and large overhang (D50 tool shaft passing through the D56mm pre-hole), it achieved450 ductile iron workpiece processing that met the standard in one go, and the customer expressed satisfaction.
I. Test cutting background
The customer faced the following in the processing of a certain key component:
Operating conditions constraints:
It is necessary to complete D85mm hole processing on the OT450 ductile ironpiece. The workpiece has a D56mm pre-hole, and the tool shaft needs to be installed after passing through the hole. The tool handle overhang reaches 2 times the diameter (tool shaft diameter D50mm), and there is no internal cooling supply.
Customer pain points: The original process uses a floating hinge cutter, low processing efficiency (about 1927 seconds per piece), and the hole straightness and surface roughness also do not meet the requirements, and the tool wear is.
Target demand: Achieve efficient and stable processing, surface roughness Ra1.6um, hole straightness ≤0.02mm, and reduce comprehensive costs.
II. Test cutting process
Sonda Tools provided the FBT50 VBF D50.638.VE-24050 damping precision boring bar with certain brand of inserts, custom-designed a matching solution, and implemented on-site test cutting verification.
The Sonda technical team ground the tool handle shim at the customers factory for standby. The plan was to not install the tool shim for the first cut, to verify whether it was feasible without the tool shim, and to install tool shim if there was vibration, with a total margin of 1.5mm in diameter for the workpiece so that several cuts could be tried without the workpiece beingpped. The parameters we gave were the reference upper limit numbers given after the company's pre-test cutting, but the cutting depth was increased, and the result was that the cut was very smooth, with no vibration.
III. Test cutting results and customer evaluation
Processing efficiency:
The processing time per piece was shortened from 192 seconds in the original process to 867 seconds, with an efficiency improvement of about 122.3%.
